Getting Ready to Play in the Snow

Let's go!

p.s. Thanks Aunt Sheila for the mittens!

A Visit from Camas and a Goodbye to Skip

Ahhh- Winter's here! This week brought a foot of snow to the cabin and even more to the Pass.

Huck went on his first ski around the neighborhood and a sled ride with Camas.

Even Buddy got to ride for a while.

The last pic is of dinner with Eugene and his mom, Win, Derrick and us. Eug's dad passed away on Sunday. We shared a bottle of Smoking Loon Cabernet in tribute.

Almost a Year

As we approach Huck's first birthday I marvel at the changes in our lives- the fun, the challenge, the lack of sleep...

Here are a couple new pics and a shout of love and hope for Eugene's dad, Skip, who's struggling with cancer in the hospital in Eugene right now.

The first three are from a hike at Joe Goddard's Grove. The sun was magnificent shining through the recently thawed frost on the fir needles.

It made me think of William Blake:
"To see a World in a Grain of Sand,
And a Heaven in a Wild Flower."

New Trike!

Huck got his first trike today! It's really fast and sturdy and it's all-terrain.

And here's a glimpse of Neshi, he's healed up pretty well. Just some rather large scabs on his neck and he's otherwise normal. He's back to playing outside most of the day socializing with other cats and chasing bugs. We love our kitten cat.

Hike on Huckle- I mean, Heckletooth

We started getting a bit cabin feverish staying inside at home with Neshi all week as it poured rain outside so we finally took the chance of getting soaked and headed to the hills. In the trees the rain wasn't so bad and everything is luscious and green.

Huck did a lot of hiking on the trail and ended up crashing out on Mac's shoulders at the end.

Update

Neshi is doing much better now. He goes in to get the feeding tube removed tomorrow and we;ll get a full report on his healing process.

As for our Huckster- he's up and walking around, yes, walking. He says 'hi' and waves and does other ingenious things a 10 month old impresses his mother with.

We had a short but playful dinner visit from Athena and Coleman and their father. At 18 months they have a lot to teach our Huck. He's trying his best to keep up.

Our Poor Kitten

I have some bad news about Neshi.

The day Huck and I returned from Michigan and Mac from his big bike ride Neshi was very injured. He made it home and we found him under the bed the next morning.

We waited to see how he was doing not knowing what had happened or how badly he was hurt but he only got worse. It turns out he was shot in the face and the bullet exited his neck. His jaw had exploded and pieces were lodged along the bullet's path.

He had surgery today and is expected to recover in about a month but he will not have a left lower jaw, apparently cats can make due without it. He will be fed with a feeding tube for a couple weeks and then he will learn to chew with his right side.

Please think healing thoughts for our Neshi and hopefully he will be out doing Neshi things soon.

Huck's Trucks

We had a big contracted job in the back yard yesterday. The big papa Mac tore up some concrete and Huck and I cleaned up with our equipment.

Fun with a Bag

Neshi plays nicer with Huck than anyone else...

First Crawls!

Day 3 of crawling! And the beginning of the battle over the dog water...it's so fun to dump out over and over and over!
